About the Artist
ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
The Pulp Fiction Series grew out of the Wayfarers and Sinners exhibition (2010) initiated by the Alberta Society of Artists. The theme of this ASA show suggested the lurid headlines and brazen content of post-war pulp fiction. Highway service stations and night travel over desolate winter highways are all part of my prairie experience; so too, however, are the colourful books and glamour magazines that drew customers of quiet country stores. Scandal, passion and transgressions of the law conjured scenes of questionable characters who lived by their own rules. In retrospect, the pulps were a commentary on social expectations of another era. For better or worse, they were part of this prairie boy's life as much as elevators, dusty gravel roads and endless fields of golden wheat.
