About the Artist

Born in 1934, Keith Thomson grew up in a farming community in the Qu'Appelle Valley near Craven in southern Saskatchewan. He worked as a commercial artist until he was invited to instruct art at the Alberta College of Art. He remained there as head of the Department of Visual Communications until his retirement in 1989. For the past 27 years, his medium of choice has been watercolour, due to its versatility, fast drying properties and capacity for detail. Through his many years of painting with subject matter such as farm life, street scenes, and landscapes, Thomson has evolved a truly personal style, uninfluenced by other schools of art, to a distinctive landscape image that has a classic understanding of composition, design and a dramatic use of colour.
