Wallace Edwards was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art. In 2002, his children's book, Alphabeasts, won the Governor General's Award for children's book illustration. His books have won multiple national awards, and his most recent book, The Cat's Pajamas (2010), continues the theme from Mixed Beasts (2005), which was also nominated for a Governor General's Award.

Edwards prefers to work primarily in watercolour and pencil, using a variety of styles from cartoon to scientific illustration.
