Graham Noble Norwell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1901. Norwell came to Kingston, Ontario in 1914 and studied art under Arthur Lismer, George Reid, J.W. Beatty and Robert Holmes at the Ontario College of Art in 1920.
He then studied in London; and with Augustus John in Paris. He visited Scotland, England and Italy in 1924. Working in oil and watercolour, he is best known for his Quebec, and specifically Laurentian, landscapes with particular emphasis on winter scenes. He was active in Ottawa, Ontario (1921-1926), Montreal (1933-1943), and Val-David, Quebec, Canada where he died in 1967.
Norwell exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1921-1943, and the Art Association of Montreal in 1922-1943. His work is in the collections of the AGO, and NGC.
