Silent Auction in Support of Ukraine

Auction Closes Saturday, March 26 at 5 PM MST
Amy Dryer is auctioning off her painting, One Night, in support of citizens fleeing violence in Ukraine. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to’s Ukraine Crisis Fund.

I have been particularly moved by images of people helping Ukrainians evacuate; by women taking care of sick babies in bunkers and mothers talking about how they will protect their children at all costs. I have a friend here in Calgary who has family in the Ukraine that she has not been able to reach. She sent me photos of the city she grew up in and an article about the bombings taking place there now. A photo accompanied this article of a woman playing her white grande piano in a room that had been half blown up. Amidst the war, I believe heroes and leaders are rising up, fighting for freedom, for democracy and for their country and its people.

In Russia, people are protesting the war as well, at risk of beatings and arrests. I feel that, as people, we have a responsibility to care for one another however we can. My art is my way of giving back at this time and that is why I wish to donate One Night.

One Night is a painting I made based on my backyard garden. I am interested in the idea of capturing and recapturing a specific space in a variety of different ways. One Night shows the garden at night, with the stars lighting its forms, leaves and plants. I am drawn to the interplay of light, creating and defining form.
