Eileen Murray Canadian, b. 1967

In my practice, I navigate the erosion of memory within interior spaces and non geographical places, where familiarity dissolves into abstraction. I am interested in a sense of place that is not geographical but psychological and heavily ensconced in the emotional weight of belonging. My paintings flirt with the line between fine art and decoration, using both trending and vintage colours, patterns, and objects that evoke the quotidian, the nostalgic, and the ritual aspects of domestic space.

My practice is heavily informed by growing up in the mountains of the Crowsnest Pass where the struggles of rebellion and youth formed my need to express. To Pass, to proceed and to grow is the epitome of my research based practice. For over twenty five years, through cycles of struggle, research, failure, play and endurance, I have and continue to explore the idea of place.
