We are excited to announce a rare and important A.J. Casson painting is now available for private sale. Among the Group of Seven, Casson is remembered for his depictions of everyday life of rural Ontario. The inclusion of a figure adds scale and narrative, and the lived experience of small communities. In the 1940s Casson was closely involved with the Sampson Matthews silkscreen program, committed to bringing Canadian imagery into homes across the country, a philosophy echoed in paintings such as this. A Village in February has no auction history, remains in excellent condition and exemplifies the qualities that have made Casson’s village scenes among the most enduring and sought after in Canadian art.
