We are excited to announce a rare and important Florence Carlyle painting is now available for private sale. After the Party, painted around 1914, is one of the artist’s best-known compositions and has often been compared to Whistler’s Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1 (Whistler’s Mother) for its similar seated pose, quiet interior setting, and controlled tonal harmony. Carlyle’s work replaces Whistler’s detached austerity with a more personal sense of reflection, presenting a woman in the aftermath of social activity rather than formal repose. Exhibited in Florence Carlyle: Against All Odds at Museum London, the Varley Art Gallery, and the Woodstock Art Gallery, this painting stands as one of her defining statements on solitude, composure, and the private dimensions of women’s experience.
