Taking inspiration from the vast terrain of North America, I create large-scale landscape paintings that are driven by the materiality of paint itself. Working with both historical and contemporary pigments, I emphasize their physical properties—weight, luminosity, and texture—to build surfaces that echo the layered complexity of the land. Using oil and acrylic applied with tools such as brooms and palette knives, along with paste media, I develop varied finishes that shift between gloss and matte, density and transparency, evoking processes like erosion, atmosphere, and sedimentation. Rooted in impressionist and expressionist abstraction, my work treats paint as both subject and language, where gesture and color emerge through a balance of control and chance. Inspired by artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Lee Krasner, and Helen Frankenthaler, I invite viewers to engage closely with surface and material, encouraging a sensory connection that reflects on our evolving relationship to landscape, time, and place.
