DaVinci’s Mona Lisa is the “the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world”. Planted firmly in cultural consciousness after its theft from the Louvre in 1911 (and subsequent return in 1914) the portrait is the archetypical masterpiece.
